Lindsay Ostrom

Pinch of Yum Founder

I grew up in a small town in Minnesota and earned my degree in Elementary Education before beginning my career as a 4th-grade teacher.

During my first year as a teacher, I found myself looking forward to coming home and cooking dinner each night in our small kitchen with its outdated appliances and glitchy overhead lights. Even in a tiny space, it was a comforting and grounding routine, and I loved trying new recipes from cookbooks and friends.

What started as a creative outlet quickly became a passion. I began trying new things, developing recipes, learning photography, and sharing content online.

In 2010, my husband Bjork and I launched Pinch of Yum as a simple food blog. As we saw our audience grow every day and every year, it gave me a renewed commitment to creating reliable, well-tested recipes that people could trust as a full-time job.

More than 15 years after launching Pinch of Yum, the site reaches millions of readers each month with tested, approachable recipes designed for real home kitchens.

Recipes are always made multiple times, and it’s common for me to work (and re-work) a recipe for three to four weeks before publishing it. Your time, ingredients, and trust are valuable, and I never take that for granted.

When you see a recipe published on Pinch of Yum, I hope you can know that it’s been carefully tested and made to work not just in a test kitchen, but served in my own home to my own family and friends.

In addition to developing recipes, I’ve had the privilege of spending more than a decade teaching and advocating within the creator industry.

As Pinch of Yum grew, my husband Bjork and I began sharing what we were learning about recipe development, food photography, and building sustainable online businesses.
